The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 FILM REVIEW

THE WAIT IS FINALLY OVER!!! MOCKINGJAY PART 1 IS HERE AND I HAVE SEEN IT!!!!!!!

Warning this review will contain spoilers.

Wow. That is the one word that came to mind after the film had finished and the cinema lights came on. The book had once again been brought to life before my very eyes.

I’m finding it hard to write this review because I’m to busy screaming inside about HOW AMAZING IT WAS!!! But I will try.

The team behind it had done a brilliant job in adapting the book for the big screen, with a few little sneaky twists which I will touch more on.

Jennifer Lawrence did another fantastic job of portraying Katniss and Liam Hemsworth was once again looking gorgeous.

FILM VS BOOK

There where a few things that weren’t in or changed in the film. I thought the two most noticeable ones where:

Effie Trinket appears, replacing Katniss’s prep team who are supposed to appear. It wasn’t following the book but I think it worked well. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Effie’s unique personality again.

When Katniss agrees to be the Mockinjay she has some conditions, one of which is she gets to kill President Snow. This has been cut from the film but it doesn’t really make much of a difference.

I know not everything will make the film, but that didn’t make it any less amazing!

FAVOURITE PART

It’s hard to pick a favourite part but there was one part that really hooked me and sent shivers down my spine.

In the film we get to see more of the rebels from some of the other districts. In particular, District 7.

They rebel and leave the district and head to District 5. As they are walking they sing one of Katniss’s songs; In the hanging tree. The song is still being sung as some of them are killed and they blow up the walls. It really is an OMYGODKILLMENOW moment.

LOWS OF THE FILM

Not that there really was any buuuut the beginning was a teeny tiny bit confusing. It starts with Katniss hiding in the dark as she is suffering from nightmares, and some of District 13 grabbing her and taking her to the hospital. I haven’t read the book in a while and it took me a few seconds to realise what was going on. My boyfriend who came with me had no clue. (He hasn’t watched the films in while though and kept getting it mixed up with Divergent. He clearly needs to be educated more).

The film ends with Katniss looking through a window at a weak and ill looking Petah who is struggling to free himself from the bed he has been strapped to. A perfect part to leave the film on.

Overall my ratings for the film are:

Characters 10/10
Plot 10/10
Special effects 10/10
Ending 10/10

If you haven’t seen it yet then you NEED TO!!!

Also READ THE BOOKS.

BRING ON PART 2!!!!!
